DAY NUMBER TWO IN PARADISE:

Today could be summed up with two words, rain and rehearsals. The morning was supposed to be a beautiful photo shoot on the lagoon overlooking the signature towers. But unfortunately a tropical storm named Bonnie decided to pay the islands a visit. In between raindrops the photo staff pulled off the tableau shot as it was all smiles as the delegates brightened up the day. After a morning by the pool it was indoors to the Atlantic Ballroom as preparations continued. All is good as they continued into the evening.

Our Miss Florida Teen USA Alyssa Rivera is in great spirits as she is having the time of her life. Friday is more rehearsals as the state directors have a brief visit right around lunch time. Then they re-group for the first of two evenings of competition as preliminary night awaits the judges, contestants and audience. We are now in Nassau and will have our very own pictures up on www.Flickr.com/MissFloridaUSA as well as full reports on Saturday, Sunday and a wrap up on Monday.

GETTING TO KNOW: Miss North Dakota Teen USA 2010

Pageants are nothing new to Bismarck`s Ariana Walker. The 19-year-old has been competing for years and even paid for her first year of college with scholarship money she won in pageants, but she`s about to compete in a pageant unlike any she`s even been in before.

Nineteen-year-old Walker has been spending much of her summer at Gold`s Gym. She`s working out so she`ll be in the best possible shape when she takes the stage in the Miss Teen USA Pageant. "Its based on physical fitness, beauty and interview skills so what they’re looking for is the all around girl," said Walker.

That means Walkers preparations have gone beyond the gym. "I’ve been doing a lot of mock interviews, exercising and eating healthy, which is really important, because when it comes to being in pageants and being physically fit, you want to make sure I’m healthy," she said.

And while pageants are nothing new for Walker but this pageant actually does bring something new. For the first time, Walker will have to model a swim suit.
"Walking on stage in a two piece saying, `This is my body, and I feel comfortable in my own skin,` that’s the most rewarding but also the most terrifying because you’re being critiqued," said Walker. But she`s not focusing on that. Instead, she`s thinking about all the good that pageants have brought to her life, like self confidence, opportunities, scholarships, and now, a trip to the Bahamas.
