» MISS USA GOES HOME FOR JULY 4th

It’s amazing to be back here," says Cranston’s Olivia Culpo, the newly crowned Miss USA. Olivia Culpo is back home in Rhode Island.  She fit the trip into her tightly packed schedule so she could attend the Bristol Fourth of July Parade. Her big win is still sort of a shock to her where now at home, she's become a household name. “I had to be pinched, I thought I was dreaming.  And I still thought I was dreaming, even days after I won. It was very surreal feeling and even just as the numbers kept getting smaller and smaller I couldn’t believe it more and more.  Then I won, I just wanted to make it to the top 16.” For a bit of time after the pageant there was some controversy.  A contestant claimed the competition was rigged.  It was Miss Pennsylvania who took her claims public and Donald Trump, one of the pageant’s owners, threatened to sue her.

Olivia's response: “I think it was a bit of bad sportsmanship but I felt bad for her that she decided to give up her title and to throw away Miss Pennsylvania USA and to throw it all away for a list with people’s names on it. My name wasn’t even on the list.  It's a little silly.” So what's next for this Cranston native? Olivia told us she is looking forward to spending time with her Rhode Island family and exploring a career possibly in communications or maybe acting.  She says her future is wide open. "I'm hoping I'm inspiriting to girls.  That you can do whatever you want to do if you set your mind to it and you have a good attitude," she said.

» A Miss Florida USA 4th of July in Pictures

From the Florida Keys to the Panhandle our local Miss Florida USA titleholders were in action on our nations birthday. Beginning with the annual Key Largo Holiday Parade with our Florida Keys titleholders we began the day bright and early waving to the adoring fans. Here are some pictures from around the state as it was appearance and parade time in celebration of the holiday. We gathered photos to tell the story as you don’t have to be Miss USA to be a celebrity over the holidays!

» KUDOS & DID YOU KNOWS:

- Kudos to our Miss Miami Gardens USA 2013 Aja Watkins as she was a special guest at the Miami Rescue Missions Annual Christmas In July spectacular Tuesday morning in Downtown Miami Dade. Their goal is to help the homeless feel and look better as they try to re-establish themselves in the workforce. Ms. Watkins led the fun as the event let the homeless know what services they offer and to help the homeless be comfortable enough to use the services. What a great way to help the needy in our community Aja!

- Did You Know Miss Miami Teen USA 2013 Yarelya Truffin; Miss Miami USA 2013 Christina Sthair; Miss Miami Tropic 2011 Maria Gonzalez and Miss Hollywood USA 2013 Yanet Brunet  were special guests at Pollo Tropicale North Miami store opening this past Friday. The restaurant celebrated with a beach party theme. The festivities start with the official ribbon cutting by the mayor and our titleholders to kick off the day. Then the fun was followed by a robo-surfing competition, which benefited several local North Miami children’s charities and featured local media celebrities. A fun day was had by one and all with over $5,000 raised for the community, way to have fun while helping the children of North Miami Dade.

- Kudos to our Miss Overtown USA 2013 Marla Spence as she acted as onstage hostess at this year’s Overtown Rhythm and Blues Festival held in this historic African Community in downtown Miami Dade. Hundreds of people attended the free event, which ran along Northwest Third Avenue and featured two performance stages, as well as more than 50 vendors of food, art, clothes, fashion accessories, and more. The proceeds of the event went to several assistance charities in Miami Dade County. Way to represent and be amongst the communities leaders Marla!
