» IN THE AUDIENCE:

With our most unfortunate technical difficulties last week we present a special two week in one Faces & Places. When we last left off it was Miami Lakes and Lee County Weekends as a Friday night kickoff began the fun weekend. We hit the road for the first time as we visited Ft. Myers on Sunday after a Saturday night Miami Lakes USA pageant. It was a great kickoff to the new decade as both events were by first time directors and each took pageantry in that region to a new level.

This past weekend had a seminar day on Saturday and our West Broward USA Pageant on Sunday. On a perfect afternoon we visited our friends at the Make Up Store at Sunset Place for our second Miss Coral Gables USA Seminar Day. With the Pro Bowl festivities all around us the pageant still had an excellent turnout as they prepared for this weekends big pageant. Then Sunday we headed to The Coral Springs Marriott Resort and Spa in Heron Bay. Pageant Director Barbara Ewald put together a great evening of pageantry as she celebrated the events 7th anniversary with their only hostess for all the years, Miss Florida USA 2009 Anastagia Pierre.

» MISS MIAMI BEACH USA IN THE NEWS:

Miami Beach sisters looking for `Miss Miami Beach USA' Strike a pose: You could be the next Miss Miami Beach.

Miami Beach sisters Tammy Green and Lauren Green-Martincak are on the hunt for the next Miss Miami Beach -- or her teen counterpart.Green and Green-Martincak, pageant judges and co-owners of a modeling agency, are producing the first Miss Miami Beach USA and Miss Miami Beach Teen USA competitions in April. Deadline to apply for the pageant is March 1.

``We are looking for young ladies that are confident,'' said Green, who runs Miami Beach's Green Agency with her sister. ``And what has excited us so much is that we have the opportunity to create an event that empowers the young women of our community.''

Contestants don't necessarily have to live in Miami Beach, however -- but they do have to be Florida residents for at least six months and be U.S. citizens. Miss Miami Beach contestants must be between 18 and 27 years old; Miss Miami Beach Teen hopefuls must be between 14 and 19. There will actually be two winners selected for each contest: a judge's choice, and a winner chosen American Idol-style by the public, voting online or via text message. The pageant will be streamed online, Green said. All four winners will go on to compete in the Miss Florida USA and Miss Florida Teen USA pageants. (Miss Florida USA competes in the Miss USA pageant.)

Additional prizes include clothing, jewelry and photo shoots, Green said. Contestants will be judged in three categories: interview, swimsuit and evening gown. Green said the interview portion is the most important. ``This is an opportunity to express their interests, goals, and most importantly, their community activism,'' she said. Green-Martincak says that contestants must be well-spoken, smart and determined. ``We are all about empowering women,'' she said. ``Each girl needs a platform, a charity or a cause they believe in, and I think it opens awareness to everyone.'' The pageant also features a Little Sister program, which gives girls ages 5 to 13 the chance to shadow contestants during events and photo shoots. The deadline and fees to apply for the Little Sister program is the same as for the pageant contestants.

The contestants will also participate on Lincoln Road a few days before the main event. The sisters are looking forward to produce their first pageant. While serving as pageant judges in the past, they've never competed themselves. ``But we do like to wear tiaras on our birthdays,'' Green said.

» Volunteering In The First Person: Miss Boca Raton USA 2011 – Tatiana Santos

Best Buddies is not only one of the largest non-profit organizations in the

World, but it is also the most rewarding organization I have ever volunteered for.  Not only do I help support such a great cause, but I have also formed friendships with the members.  It is an honor be their friend and serve as a role model that they look up to. Aside from being appointed as the Special Events Chair on the Best Buddies Miami Program Advisory Committee, I also volunteer for their Citizens Program as an event coordinator. Every month we strategize and seek donations to hold an event for the members. At the events, the members have the opportunity to socialize and form friendships with someone other than their assigned buddy.

The best part about this organization: Best Buddies Day 2010:

Double Decades Bowl-A-Thon and Friendship Festival!

When: Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm

Where: Bird Bowl, 9275 SW 40th Street, Miami, FL 33165

Why: To be able to continue forming life long friendships and support a great cause!

Cost: $25 (includes breakfast, lunch, 1 bowling game, games, & t-shirt)

We ask that everyone come out, even if you cannot bowl.  Your contribution and support will allow us to work together to create the opportunity for more friendships and expansion of the Best Buddies organization. For more information, please contact Christina Echeona or I  immediately so we can get you registered! ChristinaEcheona@bestbuddies.org  (954) 449-6522 or contact myself at Blissat350@gmail.com (305) 519-4346. Thank you for your support and looking forward to seeing everyone March 20th

» KUDOS & DID YOU KNOWS:

Kudos to Miss Lee County USA 2011 Britney King who along with Miss Lee County USA Little Sister Aria Armstead and Miss Florida Keys USA Little Sister Gina Barbosa, were special guests at the Red Sox Road Trip to kick off Spring Training 2010. They met the Top Red Sox Prospects, toured the Ball Field and took photos with the 2004 & 2007 World Series Trophies. Way to connect with our friends from the northeast Britney, Aria and Gina.

PICTURE OF THE WEEK!

In this double exposure Picture of the Week we see the picture to look so warm and inviting….then we see the reality, swimsuits in the snow! Current and former Miss Switzerland Universes Christa Rigozzi, Amanda Ammann, Whitney Toyloy and current Miss Switzerland Linda Faeh recently had a bikini shooting in the mountains. The pictures were hot and cold for us! So that’s why it’s a double edition of our Picture of The Week!
