» “In Hollywood It’s Never Too Hot For Fashion” Charity Fashion Show

It’s was a who’s who of Hollywood as several of our Miss Florida USA 2008 delegates hit the catwalk in assistance of The Broward Outreach Center. Joining our delegates were several VIP’s of our host city. Included in the event were our City Manager, Police Chief and Fire Chief as well as several City Commissioners and dignitaries. All the efforts of the evening go to the homeless assistance project of Broward County.

Hosted by The Hollywood Beach Marriott (also featured in this weeks “The Sopranos” episode) a record turnout made this year’s event a success. Our models included: Rebecca Dahmen (Capital City USA); Cristian Erickson (South East UA):  Stephanie Jimenez (Kendall); Yazmin Navarro (Hollywood USA); Nataly Rosenberg (Doral USA); Cristina Rumfelt (North Miami USA); Kelly Saks (South Miami USA); Sulema Sanchez (West Broward USA); Lindsay Shockey (Broward USA); Ashley Vickers (Space Coast USA) and Jaclyn Wahlbrouhl (Broward County Fair).

It was also great to see so many of our directors and contestants attend this traditional event. At last count over $48,000.00 was raised that will go to a new playground in The Women and Children’s Auxiliary. Look in the next week for a Youtube video on all of the fun. Great job ladies!

» Pussy Cat Doll Update

Chelsea Korka, Miss West Broward USA 2007, fell short in her quest Tuesday to become the newest member of the Pussycat Dolls — a highly successful, all-female pop recording group. In the season finale of the weekly competitive TV reality show, “The Pussycat Dolls Presents: The Search for the Next Pussycat Dolls,” the 20-year-old Cooper City, Fla., native lost out to Asia Nitollano of Mount Vernon, NY.

Both women were among three finalists competing to join the Pussycat Dolls lineup in the finale of the show that aired Tuesday on the CW Network. Ms., Korka, a singer and dancer, was among hundreds of young women who competed to be on the show. That number was whittled down to 50, then finally to 19 who made it as contestants on the show.

Korka’s grandparents said that they were regular viewers of the show because of their granddaughter’s presence as a contestant. Gertrude Korka, 89, said she comes from a musical family. “I was in music all of my life,” she said. “My dad was, too. He was born in Indiana, and he brought that into the family, and we’re all into it in some way.”

Gertrude described her granddaughter as “lovable and down-to-earth.” The contestant’s father, Craig said  “Even if she doesn’t win,” her father said Monday prior to the finale, “she’ll still be a success.” Then post finale it was announced that Ms. Korka was heading out the next morning to begin negotiations with a major record label. Keep tuned her for the latest updates as one of our family pursues her dreams!
