Miss Florida USA Faces

This year's Art Deco Weekend is going global with a Miss Florida USA twist. The annual celebration of all things Art Deco, sponsored by the Miami Design Preservation League, starts tonight and runs through the weekend, and is called ``East Meets West: Art Deco from Miami to Shanghai.''

The second annual ''Light Up the Drive'' evening parade down Ocean Drive, between Fifth and 15th streets, will feature music, dancers, street performers, antique cars, floats and more; 7:30 p.m. Friday. Our very own Jenna Edwards is the featured attraction courtesy of Pollo Tropical.

Events include a street fair and parade along Ocean Drive between Fifth and 15th streets, films, lectures, exhibits in Miami Beach and Wynwood, and a delegation of architects, artists, and high level government officials from Shanghai on a cultural exchange initiative. The classic designs of the 1930’s Miami Beach are honored at this Miami tradition!

Our Miss Florida Teen USA Annilie Hastey spent her Saturday afternoon judging a battle of the bands contest outdoors in West Hollywood. Seven bands rocked the two stages as a $500.00 gift certificate from Guitar Center, a day of recording at Sunflower Studios and a concert video by Tel-Air Interests. At the end of the contest Hollywood City Commissioner Fran Russo joined our Miss Hastey on-stage for the winning presentations.

The seven Broward area bands played for a grand prize of $500.00; a gift certificate of $500 to Guitar Center; 5 hours of studio time at Sunflower Studios of Hollywood and a live performance video from our friends at Tel-Air Interests. Thanks to Brandon of The Hollywood Parks Department who headed this event. The rock and roll was great and so were the pictures. Enjoy!

Sunday afternoon on Hollywood Beach it was all about the perfect photo as the fourth annual Miss Hollywood USA Pageant kicked of with their “Pageant University” Seminar and promotional photo shoot. Our favorite Hollywood photographer John Lamarsh had a beautiful afternoon in which to show off this great group of delegates.

The weather was sunny and 80 degrees as The Hollywood Beach Marriott served as wonderful hosts. Miss Hollywood USA 2007 Rachel Rose was quite the star as she led the fifteen models that participated. After the photo shoot it was off to the meeting rooms of the Marriott for Pageant University featuring our very own Miss Florida Teen USA Annilie Hastey. Tips were learned, prizes were won and friends were made. All in the course of one wonderful afternoon of pageantry and fellowship. A big thanks goes to all of our friends at The Hollywood Jaycees and pageant directors Jules Meyer and Denise Manos who go way out of their way to make this a special event. Enjoy the photos!
