Our "Mock Judges"

» Miss Florida USA’s Last Weekend Before Nationals!

Cristin Duren made one last visit to South Florida as the final tweaks are being made before Miss USA begins on Sunday. Co-Pageant Director Michael Galanes  coordinated a Saturday Morning Mock Interview Session for Ms. Duren to begin the day. Under the stage lights of The Hollywood Production Center we had a tough group of “faux judges” ask the question’s as our Ms. Duren was the epitome of grace under pressure.

A big thank you goes to Megan Alonge, Andy Rogow; Manny Rodriquez and Racquel, who donated their weekend morning to help the Miss Florida USA Team. The national judges at Miss USA should be very impressed by our state representative! Then it was off to one Miami for one last fitting at Rafael’s Couture as once again look for Florida’s fashion style to be the talk of Baltimore.

Interviews are underway on Saturday morning

Mr. Galanes adds his guidance

to the review session

Sunday morning began with a quick pep session at Tel-Air before an early arrival at Rozio Couture for the unveiling of a spectacular custom made gown for Baltimore. Then it time to head across the street for a special appearance at  Carnival of Friendships Day held for the members of Best Buddies in Miami-Dade County. Ms. Duren was a feature guest and was quite the hit! It was so amazing to see the faces light up when she made each and every visitor feel special.

With a Power 96 DJ on site the entire group kept busy dancing the day away! Ms. Duren also signed autographs as others enjoyed pizza and cake! “Well, I watched them enjoy the cake, Miss USA is right around the corner!” Said Ms. Duren “I really am so very thankful for this opportunity and the chance to celebrate one the best gifts in life, FRIENDSHIP!” Special words from a special woman…

» Queen For A Day Fundraiser on South Beach

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to let you all know that I'm helping to host a FANTASTIC event at the former Versace Mansion  (Casa Casuarina) on April 13th.  The "Royal Indulgence Gala" will feature a fashion show by Juan Carlos Pinera, open bar courtesy of Grey Goose, an appetizer buffet, a silent auction, and a DJ.  As well as experiencing the magic of Casa Casuarina, you'll be helping a great cause.  Queen for a Day (http://www.qfad.org/) is a non-profit organization started by former Miss Florida MAO Jenna Edwards that works with hospitalized little girls with cancer.

Tickets are only $150 (such a steal for an open bar at the Versace mansion!), and you can purchase them at the link below.  Feel free to contact me with any questions, and I hope to see you all there! http://www.qfad.org/gala.htm

» JENNIFER WOOTEN’S PHOTO’S BY LASKY SHOOT

One of the best parts of winning our state title is the opportunity to shoot with the legendary photographer Bob Lasky. A few weeks ago our Miss Florida Teen USA Jennifer Wooten was in South Florida for her second sitting with Mr. Lasky. The first session was the crown and banner shot (now featured on the front page of www.missfloridateenusa.com) while lifestyles was featured during round two.

Mr. Lasky’s work has graced all of the celebrated fashion magazines of the world and has been a member of the Miss Florida USA family for over twenty years. As you can tell he knows how to work with our titleholders. Enjoy the pictures and visit Mr. Lasky online at www.boblasky.com.

» KUDOS & DID YOU KNOWS

Kudos to the Halavin Productions Team on their participation in the youth day activities this past Saturday in the Broward County town of Oakland Park. Title Holders Sarah Callahan; Alicia Castellano; Angel Coleman; Shantavia Davis; Christian Ericksen and Lindsey Shockey along with Oakland Park town leaders combined to decorate the official “queens float”.  Great job on being involved to the entire Halavin Team!

PICTURE OF THE WEEK!

Some of our Picture of The Week committee thinks that if you take a beautiful woman, add feathers and a pretty background and voila! You have a picture of the week. Well those members voted this picture of Miss Panama Universe with feathers and the pacific in the background. Enjoy!
