Vertigo Boutique of Dadeland is a part of the team preparing Ms. Duren for Miss USA!
» Cristin’s Hectic Week
With
Miss USA only a few months away it is time to turn it up a notch in the
preparation of our Miss Florida USA Cristin Duren. With the assistance of our
style ambassador Sixto Nolasco our Ms. Duren visited South Florida this week
for some serious shopping and training!
The tour started on Sunday as Ms. Duren co-hosted the Miss Hollywood USA Pageant and sounded in great form. This is wonderful practice as she prepares for that tough interview question onstage at nationals. Then on Monday it was off to Ann Freedman’s Speak Out ® Public Speaking Center. Ms. Freeman trains all of the major corporations executives in Miami. Her clients include Carnival Cruises; IBM & Bank America!

Tuesday started the fashion consultations with Pageant Director Mary Lou Gravitt and Mr. Nolasco. At this point the team discussed fabrics, colors and styles as it is time to make a Florida fashion statement at nationals! Wednesday was all about shopping as it was off to Rocio’s Studio’s for a gown fitting by Rocio Coutoure all under the watchful eye of Mr. Nolasco. Then it was off to Vertigo Boutique for that all important interview suit! The shopping was wonderful and thank-you to all of our friends at both Rocio’s and Vertigo for their assistance.

The first of February was the last day of this mini-tour as it was time to shoot Ms. Duren’s prize package with our good friend Bob Lasky of Photo’s By Lasky. Check those out next week right here at Faces & Places! Then it was off to meet our make-up team headed by Enrique Enriquez and hosted by our friends at MAC South Beach. So much fun as it was a night of application and colorization!
Thursday saw a return meeting with Anne Freedman before Ms. Duren headed north back to Panama City! Look for her return next week as she host’s the live telethon “Hollywood Helps Katrina’s Kids and Wilma’s Too!” originating from The Hollywood Beach Marriott this upcoming Thursday February 9th on Becon TV in Broward County.

Say Cheese!

Miss Hollywood USA from The Audience

Ms. Duren with John, Ms.Shockey and Ms. Uziel before Miss Hollywood USA
What a special evening it was in Hollywood last Sunday! The whole day had the feeling of a major event and when the 500 attendee plus standing room crowd really turned the event up a notch. What a job The Hollywood Jaycee’s did as twelve young women competed for the two titles but many more experienced a Miss Florida USA preliminary pageant for the first time.

The day started with rehearsals led by our very own Cristen Duren who co-hosted the event with Miss Hollywood USA 2006 Lyndsey Shockey as they renewed friendships made last year at state. It was also great to see Miss Hollywood Teen USA 2006 Diania Crawford as the Hollywood team were practically inseperable the entire year.

While the girls were in interviews and prepared for the evenings competition it was off to the poolside VIP party. The evening was beautiful as the beach served as the background for this gathering of Hollywood dignitaries in honor of Ms. Shockey and Miss Crawford. Vice Mayor of Hollywood Fran Russo presided over the festivities.

Then it was inside for the event. Some of the highlights included a beautiful traditional Thai dance number by Miss Florida Teen USA alumni Marsha Nangkal. All of the ladies looked beautiful and several of our titleholders and preliminary pageant directors were in attendance giving support to the Hollywood Jaycees. As always our camera was in full motion so enjoy the pictures!

- Kudos to Miss Gold Coast Teen USA Alyssa Spirato on her new job at Radio Disney AM 1600! She sent this really cute picture of this "holiday bash" with the American Cancer Society dressed up as Alice in Wonderland. The young boys name Cameron, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma and autism at the age of 3. Way to do a good thing Alyssa!
