This Weeks Faces & Places:

In another pageant filled weekend we were all over the Miss North Miami Beach USA Pageant and will feature a report from the audience. We also found this feature in the Stuart News about our Miss Palm Beach County Teen USA. We also have some kudos and did you know’s from around the state. Finally a touching picture of the week ends our posts for the third week of April, 2005. Enjoy!

Miss North Miami Beach USA Pageants:

Some of the visiting queens from South Florida.

Another Miss USA first has the Road To Hollywood venturing to North Miami Dade for the inaugural Miss North Miami Beach USA Pageants. It was great seeing so many representatives from the South Florida circuit in the audience and onstage! Titleholders from Hollywood; Pembroke Pines; South Florida; Citrus Teen and Carnavale were represented as well as several from other systems. It was also great seeing the directors from West Broward; Halavin Productions; South Florida; Gold Coast and Boca Raton in the house. As always our cameras were working overtime! Enjoy the pictures.

Here she comes, Miss Teen USA? Stuart's Amber Garrod, a Martin County High School senior, is making a cottage industry out of entering — and so far, winning — beauty pageants. In February 2004, she entered and won the Miss Martin County Fair Pageant, where her one-year reign ended two months ago. She immediately decided to enter other pageants. Amber, 17, next signed up for the Miss Palm Beach Teen USA contest and walked away with top honors March 26. She was judged in competitions for swimsuit, evening gown, interview session and commercial reading (as if reading copy for a TV or radio commercial). She was crowned with her latest title at the Dwyer High School auditorium in Jupiter.

Amber's next competition is the statewide Miss Florida Teen USA contest, set for Hollywood, Fla., in October. f she KOs the competition, she'll be entered in the national Miss Teen USA. The date and location haven't been announced, her mom said. Amber's career goal is to become a pediatric physical therapist or sports medicine physical therapist. As you can imagine, her parents, Colleen and Frank Garrod, are beaming. "We're so proud of her," says Colleen. "It didn't come easy. She did a lot — walking on those stages, going to the gym, keeping up her grades." Amber's family support group includes her brother Jason, 21, of Stuart. "He paid her membership fee of $400 for the state contest," Mom says.

- Did You Know Melissa Witeks 4th runner-up finish at Miss USA was the Sunshine States best finish since 1988’s Monica Farrell’s 2nd runner up finish and 1987’s Chole Cabrerra’s 1st runner up result. Both fell victim to Texas during the middle of their famous 5 year victory streak. Congratulations and job well done Melissa!
