Big November For Our Miss Florida USA

Catching up with Melissa Witek finds our Miss Florida USA one busy titleholder! She has definitely ran with the title as every week an appearance or fundraiser is on the schedule. Lets do a catching up recap!

We start with the March of Dimes Woman of Achievement Gala on November 19, Melissa was honored with a nomination for woman of the year for this prestigious award. Alas she was not called as the winner but had a great evening. Once again it was quite the honor to be nominated! Melissa noted that the women nominated for the award were amazing role models.

Up next was the Broward Outreach Center fundraiser on November 20 in Hollywood. It is really great to see our Miss Florida USA take her title and do great things for our state with helping others. This annual “Feast With The Stars” raised over $30,000.00 for the homeless assistance initiative in and around Broward County. Melissa co-emceed the evening with “Help Me” Howard Finklestein who’s the local public defender and personality on WSVN Fox in South Florida.

Then it was a 5:00am wake up call the next morning as she left her “Miss Florida USA Apartment” in Ft. Lauderdale and headed to the Homestead Speedway Championship Series auto race. A live NBC appearance awaited as she read to invocation prior to the race. It was also a great chance to meet the stars of NASCAR who all wanted to meet our “star”!

Monday then saw Melissa on camera as she hosted the Behind the Scenes taping on November 22. This is a great chance to feel like a network star as she did all of her “stand up’s” using a teleprompter. This experience will come in handy as she co host’s next years live pageant. Look for the release of the much anticipated video next week!

Thanksgiving day started with the 5k Turkey Trot in Cocoa Beach to benefit the Space Coast Art Festival. Melissa fired the starting pistol and then joined the competition. This was a good way to increase her apitite for a great turkey day.

Then Friday, Nov. 26, it was the Space Coast Art Festival Judges Reception. This was a great way for Melissa to network with the movers and shakers from her home region. Later Melissa attended the Children's Art Show Awards and handed out ribbons and prize money to some thankful attendees. Wow and that was only half a month of stuff! Can’t wait til’ December.

Updates on our Miss Florida USA 2002 Shannon Ford finds her in New York visiting with Miss South Florida USA director and Florida USA alumni Daphne Angulo. Daphne reports that Shannon is the human resource director at ACE, they went out for coffee and reported she looks great and will be running a prelim pageant for Miss New York USA!…..Citrus Productions President Michael Galanes sang at alumni Valerie Morken’s wedding this past weekend in Atlanta. Reports were the bride looked beautiful and the reception was fabulous. Congratulations Valerie!……Look for the start of a “Where Are They Now” Column next week featuring Tel-Air’s first Miss Florida USA Penny Sheridan.

This Weekend on The Pageant Calendar:

The pageant season heats up again this weekend in Tampa as Miss Tampa USA & Miss St. Petersburg USA take place at The Harborview Center in Clearwater. The Road To Hollywood continues with four more titles this weekend!
