What a weekend in Hollywood!

Sitting front row center at the first prelim was so exciting as the new season has begun! So many new faces on the stage and a sold out audience to greet them was a sign that this is going to be a great preliminary season. Joining me front row was Miss Florida USA 2005 Melissa Witek and Miss Florida Teen USA 2004 Anastagia Pierre. Other dignitaries included Hollywood Mayor Mara Giulianti as well as two city commissioners. It seems that Hollywood might be the pageant capital of our state very soon!

& Andrea Schell (Miss Hollywood USA 2005)

Amongst those in the audience included Preliminary USA Directors Barbara Ewald (West Broward and helping backstage also!), Daphne Angulo (South Florida), Katty Palido & Angie Perez (Weston) as well as Mandi & Angie Halavan (Pembroke Pines). Also it was a pleasure to host Broward MAO Director Brenda Edwards. It seems that the Broward Circuit was in the house!

Congratulations to winners Lindsay Shocky, Miss Hollywood USA 2006 and Diana Crawford Miss Hollywood Teen USA 2006. Ms. Shocky is a past FL USA alumni (’02 & ’03) while Ms. Crawford is new to the Miss Teen USA system. Welcome goes to both of these young ladies as they join our Miss Florida USA family. Look for these young ladies later next year in Hollywood!

Miss Sarasota Teen USA & The Vice President

I’m sitting at home watching my beloved WSVN-CH 7 Fox morning news and while the politicians were on the tube campaigning I saw out of the corner of my eye our very own Miss Sarasota Teen USA and top-15 semifinalist Brenda Orcutt on the riser behind Vice President Dick Cheyney. Miss Sarasota USA Director Marianne Oden reported that meeting Mrs. Cheyney was quite the thrill!

Internet Goodies:

Our pageant web surfers found this article from The Munster Times - Munster,

Indiana in their around town article:

Teens turn to Gary
Just when you thought you were safe from sashes and runway waves, City of Gary Director of Special Events Donald Thompson tells me Gary is in "serious" talks to bring the national telecast of Donald Trump's Miss Teen USA back to Northwest Indiana for 2006. "Like Miss USA, the television ratings for Miss Teen USA have been solid," Thompson said. "I think it would be a natural fit to bring these ladies back to our region." While ratings for recent broadcasts of pageants under Trump's ownership have been decent, last month's television ratings for Atlantic City's Miss America Pageant were so dismal that the pageant was dropped from its ABC network contract. If Atlantic City gives the pageant the boot, could Gary be next in line?

Kudos & Did You Knows:

Congratulations to Cristen Duren (FTUSA ’97) on her 2nd runner up finish in Miss Alabama USA this past weekend. Come back to Florida.…….Did you know one of the newest television stars from “Desperate Housewives” is a former Miss El Paso USA? Seems actress Eva Longovia came out of the Miss USA system on her way to some serious Fox Drama……Also congratulations to our very own Miss Florida USA 2005 Melissa Witek as she was nominated for the 2004 March of Dimes Woman of Achievement Award for her companies and her community involvement.
