All eyes are on the worlds second most watched teen pageant in the world this weekend! PENANG: Student and part-time model Cindy Lim was crowned Miss Malaysia Queen International 2007 after beating 15 other finalists.

The third-year Universiti Sains Malaysia student entered the cha-rity beauty pageant for the first time and won the hearts of judges with her beauty, brains and sensitivity.

Cindy, 22, will represent Malay-sia in the Miss Queen International pageant, which will be held in China next month.

“I am surprised to have won be-cause this is my first pageant ever,” said the Kedah lass who also won the Miss Lions Charity Queen, Miss Mondele Elegance and Miss Just 2 Sunshine titles.

First runner-up was another USM student Fayne Wong, 22, from Penang, while second runner-up was Universiti Kebangsaan Malay-sia student Sanny Lee from Pahang.

The charity beauty pageant, or-ganised by the Lions Club of George Town, was held at the Penang In-ternational Sports Arena yesterday to raise funds for the club’s proposed Lions Kidney Dialysis Centre.

From the producers of Miss Naples USA and Miss Naples Teen USA comes a new opportunity for Florida leaders to shine: the Miss Collier County USA and Miss Collier County Teen USA pageants scheduled for Dec. 1. The registration deadline has been set for Nov. 10.

Miss Collier County USA and Teen USA welcome women from any other county in Florida, including Lee and Charlotte. The pageants are open to girls 14 to 25 years old who, among other things, are interested in the entertainment and modeling industry, broadcasting, public speaking and volunteerism, leadership, marketing, photography, fashion design, image consulting, getting college scholarship money or simply doing something different or working on their confidence and people skills.

“The concept of a well-rounded, wholesome, woman seems to escape pageant girls. Most people assume that if a woman wants to be in a beauty pageant, there is only that side to her, but nowadays young ladies are multidimensional,” Sandra Silva, pageant director of the upcoming Miss Collier County USA and Collier County Teen USA, said in a press release. “Pageants are steppingstones to brilliant and successful careers but most importantly to personal growth. These women are not afraid of taking advantage of this opportunity.”

Silva says the pageants fit Eyes Wide Open’s mission of providing people a chance to make their dreams come true as well as promoting wellness and health awareness. “Silvia Casabianca and I co-founded Eyes Wide Open seven years ago to offer community members innovative tools for a mindful living,” she said. “Being aware of what your dreams are and actively pursuing them is part of this process.”

Silva already successfully directs the Miss Naples USA and Miss Naples Teen USA pageants and will soon open casting for Miss Marco Island USA and Miss Marco Island Teen USA. These pageants are official preliminaries to the televised Miss Florida USA and Florida Teen USA Pageants of the Miss USA system. “This means that whoever wins our pageants gets to represent this region at the state competitions where Florida’s representative to Miss USA and Miss Teen USA will be chosen,” she added.

The local pageants are the first step toward $40,000 college scholarships for the new Miss Florida Teen USA and more than $50,000 in prizes for Miss Florida USA. They will also offer the thrill to be a part of the state competitions televised live and seen by more than five million people worldwide. “Miss Collier County USA and Teen USA will offer local young women a fun time to develop and discover their life interests and an opportunity to develop confidence and determination to make their personal dreams come true -whatever they may be,” Silva stated.

Organizers will host a pageant preparation workshop and a casual photo session with the registered contestants a few weeks before the pageant itself.

“We want to encourage healthy lifestyle habits and be inclusive and appreciative of differences. For this reason, there are no pre-set height or weight standards, and no previous experience is required,” Silva said. “It is very obvious to us, though, that health equals beauty and brains to make the right choices.”

As with Miss Naples USA, winners of the Collier County pageants can expect prizes valued in more than $15,000, including the official crown and sash, makeovers, photo shoots and a complete pageant coaching package designed to prepare them for the State competitions.
