Welcome to another edition of YOUR Miss Florida USA & Miss Florida Teen USA Magazine. YOUR information source for everything pageantry in the Sunshine State. After a crazy three week stretch we return to blogging with both Miss USA and our Miss Florida USA Pre-tape sessions behind us. We hope you were following all of our reports from Las Vegas. It was one of the best Miss USA Pageants ever and we are so proud of our Miss Florida USA 2012 Karina Brez who represented the Sunshine State with grace and class. Now onto the search for our next Miss Florida USA as seventy-five delegates take to Hollywood this July in pursuit of our state championships of pageantry.

In World Pageant News this week we take visits to Australia, Hungry and New Zealand. A little closer to home in Miss Florida USA News we report on the August preliminary season and events surrounding this upcoming July’s state pageant. Monday we resume with Faces + Places in our summer blogging date of Mondays. While this week’s Miss Florida USA Channel Movie of The Week introduces us to our delegates in attendance at this year’s Seminar Day in Hollywood. » Miss Universe Australia

WHEN Miss Universe Australia 2012 Renae Ayris received her tiara at Melbourne's Sofitel on Friday night she had the added thrill of accepting the title from her friend - 2011 Miss Universe Australia Scherri-Lee Biggs. Ms Ayris said it was watching Scherri's experience as Australia's Miss Universe that inspired her to enter the pageant this year.

"I've always watched but last year I followed it really closely because Scherri was in it, she's actually a friend of mine," Ms Ayris said. "I was so excited for her to hand me over the crown."

Dressed in a navy and silver cocktail dress by Perth designer Ruth Tarvydas, the 21-year-old blonde looked bright and fresh on Saturday despite having not slept a wink the night before. The life-altering announcement still hadn't sunk in when she fronted the media for her first official press call as Miss Universe Australia.

"I'm so overwhelmed still, everything is just a blur from last night," Ms Ayris gushed. "I'm going to wake up one morning and say, "Wow I'm Miss Universe Australia'."

The Miss Universe competition was the model's first time in a beauty pageant, but she has taken a shot at fame before. She is an avid dancer who auditioned for a role in Baz Luhrmann's Academy Award-winning film Moulin Rouge. "I got down to the very last cut but I was too young," she said.

Being crowned Miss Universe Australia will open up other avenues to Ms. Ayris. As part of her duties she will be acting as the charity ambassador for Operation Smile, a children's medical charity dedicated to improving the lives of children in developing countries born with facial deformities.

Another official responsibility will be to represent Australia in the international Miss Universe pageant in December. "I'll try my best to do Australia proud," Ms Ayris said. There have been two Miss Universe title-holders from Australia, with Kerry-Ann Wells claiming the title in 1972 and Jennifer Hawkins in 2004.

Agnes Konkoly has been crowned “Miss Universe Hungary 2012” at the grand coronation night of Beauty Queen 2012 at the TV2 studios in Budapest on Saturday night of 9th June, 2012.

» Miss New Zealand Universe

Miss Howick Avianca Bohm, a South African-born part-time model, has been named Miss Universe New Zealand 2012. The 22-year-old was crowned in Wellington last night by her predecessor, Wellingtonian Priyani Puketapu. Miss North Harbour Talia Bennett was named runner-up and Miss Wellington Lauren Mann was second runner-up.

Ms Bohm, who recently graduated with a fashion degree, works as a brand ambassador and part-time model. She said her interests were fashion design, sports and reading and her ambition was to become qualified as a chartered accountant. Ms Bohm had to learn English when she arrived in New Zealand, having spoken only Afrikaans in her teens.

She designed many of the dresses she wore in the pageant. Judging panel chair Jack Yan said the contestants excelled in different areas but Ms Bohm had "that je ne sais quoi. It might be described as her natural effortlessness, where nothing seemed to faze her. Avianca is best equipped to handle the international setting of Miss Universe, and that helped put her into the top place," Mr Yan said on his Lucire website. Also among the top five were Miss Otago Monique Cooley and Miss Auckland Jennifer Lambly.

» AUGUST QUALIFYING SEASON ANNOUNCED

Our special “Celebrations of Summer” has pageants that allow for split titles so you can be either the first or the final qualifiers for state. The Miss Teen USA delegates compete for entries into the 2013 Miss Florida Teen USA Pageant this October. Our Miss USA delegates are competing for entry into the 2014 Miss Florida USA Pageant to be held next July. Confusing? We hope not! Fun? Absolutely! So join us this upcoming August for competitions in Ft. Walton Beach, South Miami, Orlando and Miami Shores. We start off this week with the below information and more news next week as we confirm dates and venues.

We begin our quest for ruling North Florida as we are adding several qualifiers this season for our North Florida Friends! Here is the latest information on Miss Panhandle USA and Miss Panhandle Teen USA Pageants both taking place Sunday August 5^th at the Emerald Coast Conference Center on Ft. Walton Beach. » Miss Florida Teen USA Events at Miss Florida USA 2013

We have a great weekend planned for our Miss Teen USA delegates and Little Sisters as Hollywood is all about Miss Florida USA this upcoming July 10 – July 14. Beginning with the public being invited to join us at Mama Mia’s on Tuesday July 10^th from 5:00 – 7:00pm. The attendees will dine Italian Style then see all 75 delegates introduce themselves to their fans. Then our annual Preliminary Director and Teen USA Delegate Dinner on Thursday July 12^th returns to Mama Mia’s on Young Circle. Friday is the Preliminary Show at Bailey Concert Hall beginning with a 7:00pm show start.

Saturday Morning LaCasa Hermosa of Wellington present the “Pretty in Pink” Little Sister and Teen USA delegate brunch at The Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa on Hollywood Beach. A fixed price brunch features fun and our cutest supporters of Miss Florida USA. Finally it all concludes with the 62^nd annual live show and TV broadcast of Miss Florida USA at Bailey Concert Hall.
