Dear Miss Florida USA Family:

Welcome to another edition of YOUR Miss Florida USA & Miss Florida Teen USA Magazine. YOUR information source for everything pageantry in the Sunshine State. What a weekend it was as we visited paradise in the Bahamas to root on our Miss Florida Teen USA Alyssa Rivera who rocked the stage and was named one of the top-15 contestants in the United States for teenage pageantry. Miss Teen USA was a blast as we spent four fun filled days with our pageant family basking in the Sunshine. We also want to congratulate Kamie Crawford who felt like one of us on her victory.

This weeks World Pageant News takes us onstage at Miss Teen USA for all the results as well as news from Russia, Korea and China. In news closer to home we have a big announcement as we prepare our training team for 2011 as well as news on this weekends Miss Boca Raton USA & Teen USA Seminar Day. Faces & Places takes us back to the islands for an international edition of “In the Audience” while our www.YouTube.com/MissFloridaUSA Channel Movie of the Week shows off the cute side of Miss Florida USA. » Miss Korea 2010

Jung So-ra was crowned Miss Korea in the 54th Miss Korea Beauty Pageant at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul on Sunday. Jung, the first runner-up of Miss Seoul, is the daughter of the chairman of the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, Jung Han-young. Her measurements are 33-24-36 with a height of 171cm.

A student at the University of California Riverside, she is proficient in English, Chinese, and Japanese. Her father was once recruited as an MBC TV actor in an open audition when he was young, suggesting that good looks run in the blood.

"I never expected to be crowned Miss Korea as I am the youngest of the contestants," Jung said. "It is such an honor. I want to make the beautiful Korean culture known all over the world." She pledged to study hard to become a diplomat and added, "I have no intention of going into showbusiness."

When asked about her role model, Jung answered, "Angelina Jolie, because not only was she named as the most beautiful actress in the world, she also continues to put more effort into her volunteer work. Like her, I want to take part in activities that benefit the society and at the same time promote Korean culture."

» 19-year-old Miss China confident of Miss Universe Win

Confident 19-year-old Tang Wen is nation's hope for the Miss Universe title and if her unusual selection for the pageant is any clue, this 'oriental beauty' may just make it. Gan Tian reports. Even though China's best ranking in the Miss Universe pageant so far has been 18th, Tang Wen is not worried. "I think I can make it into the top five," says the confident 19-year-old.

A model with the Beijing-based New Silk Road Modeling Agency (NSR), Tang is putting in 12-hour days in preparation for the upcoming 2010 Miss Universe Competition, which will be held at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Aug 23.

Her daily grind includes learning English until midnight, striking poses for fashion magazines, and learning about foreign cultures. "I never imagined I would undergo training on how to sneeze," she says, laughing. "I always feel that there are 1.3 billion Chinese people supporting me, and there is a 5,000-year history behind me."

Born in Yichun, Heilongjiang province, Tang had a less than idyllic childhood. Her parents divorced when she was 3 and she moved in with her mother in Beijing when she was 15. While in college, she earned money on the side by training prospective air hostesses on how to stand tall and wear the right make up. Her outstanding looks made modeling the obvious choice after graduation. "I knew I would end up in the fashion industry when I was very young," she says.

She has taken to the catwalk for most of the important women's fashion brands in China, and is a regular at China International Fashion Weeks. In 2008, she also starred in the movie Not All Women Are Bad by Hong Kong director Tsui Hark, who called her "beautiful without make up".

Tang's selection for the pageant was unusual. She was designated Miss China and sent to the competition directly by NSR, which has a cooperative agreement with the Miss Universe committee. Faced with a barrage of questions and criticism, the young girl says she "was totally and utterly stressed", but not surprised. "I felt lucky that NSR sent me directly to the final without holding a selection within the country I think it is because I have experience as an actress, in modeling and was involved in the Olympic Games. I am more qualified," she says.

MISS FL USA NEWS!

» MEGAN CLEMENTI TO HEAD OUR MISS FLORIDA USA TRAINING COMMITTEE

Big news as this week as we have restructured our concept of how to train our state titleholders as they prepare for the national competitions. Instead of a traditional coach and student concept we have decided to embrace the wonderful talent of not just the state of Florida but the best available coaching in all of the country and abroad. We feel that all things at nationals should not be equal and that Florida should claim its rightful position as the most prepared.

So with that logic we are “kicking it up a notch” and changing both the state and training structures as we are now embracing the “committee” concept. This is where we appoint the most talented people at each discipline regardless of regional issues and put them together for the betterment of our states leading ladies. Our first chairman will be someone who knows first hand what is need to bring home the tiara’s as Megan Clement, Miss Florida USA 2010 will lead the charge. In the next few weeks we will announce board appointments and will also have a pageant wide advisory board that will be filled with our states leaders of industry.

Unfortunately when there is change the people affected have to reconsider their commitments to the cause. In this case we want to thank PageantReady! with their hardworking leader Jules Myer and her dedicated staff. We hope they will buy into what we are doing and will eventually be members of our committee. We want to thank them for their friendship, hard work and fantastic mentoring of their PRGG’s as they are one of our states biggest assets to young women. But I couldn’t end this without saying congratulations to Ms. Clementi as we could not begin our journey without her creative vision and keen insight. It’s going to be the best year ever at Miss Florida USA & Teen USA.

Ms. Clementi is now the quarterback of our training team
