Welcome to another edition of YOUR Miss Florida USA & Miss Florida Teen USA Magazine. YOUR information source for everything pageantry in the Sunshine State. After an unexpected week off due to technical issues we are back and blogging with renewed enthusiasm. With our own Super Bowl of pageantry this weekend here in South Florida (Miss Coral Gables USA & Teen USA) we are riding the wave of excitement that is sweeping over our region. Today we catch up on two weeks of news as once again we post the most popular pageant page on the internet!

In World Pageant News we visit Japan, Myanmar and Uruguay to keep you up to date on the most recent competitions. In Miss Florida USA News we have results from Miami Lakes, Lee County and West Broward while we have all the news if you would like to attend this Saturday’s Coral Gables competition. GenArt returns with a great young designer while Friday’s Faces & Places goes into the audience for the past few prelims. » Mina Hayashi crowned Miss Japan for 2010

Fourth-year university student Mina Hayashi, 23, took out the Grand Prix award at the finals of the 42nd Miss Japan Contest held in Shinjuku this week. The Kagawa-born beauty - 167 cm tall and sporting a slender 79-56-85 figure - beat 3,662 other ladies to finish on top, and could not hold back the tears of joy. She said she had hoped to become an actress ever since she saw Audrey Hepburn in “Roman Holiday,” and aspired to be like actress Sayuri Yoshinaga, 64.

Hayashi, who has played the piano and practiced singing since she was 5 years old, said she liked sincere men, and that her dad was a good example. She will now spend 2010 attending various events including regional and volunteer activities, helping draw attention to them.

Mina Hayashi (C) is announced as the Miss Japan 2010 while other awardees Sayo Kojima (L) Ami Suzuki (2L), Hanako Suzuki (3L), Mana Hayashi (3R), Aimi Azuma (2R) and Kyoko Honda (R) are also announced during the "Miss Japan Grand Prix Final" at Keio Plaza Hotel on January 25, 2010 in Tokyo, Japan.

» Miss Atlantic International 2010

Jéssica Guillén, 24, Miss Venezuela, was recently crowned Miss Atlantic International 2010 in an event held in Punta Del Este, Uruguay. Jéssica participated in Miss Venezuela 2010 and was a top 5 finalist. Her first runner-up was Miss Argentina, Mariana Palleiro, 19, who also won the best national costume award. Third place went to Miss Cuba, Lisandra Silva, 22. Sixteen contestants competed for the title.

» Miss Myanmar 2010

Swe Zin Phyo has been crowned the Miss Myanmar 2010, the first since 1961. The last Miss Myanmar Pageant was held in 1961, actually called Miss Burma. The crowned beauty then was Myint Myint Khins, who competed in Miss Universe 1961 and Miss ASEAN. Ms. Phyo expresses hope that she will be allowed to participate at international beauty pageants.

Miss Miami Lakes USA & Teen USA Results

The first stop on The Road to Hollywood this decade was in Northwest Miami Dade for the inaugural Miss Miami Lakes USA Pageant. Held at The Performing Arts Center on the campus of Miami Lakes Middle School as the eight Miss USA contestants’ took the stage to an enthusiastic and sold out audience. Hosted by Dusin Greenwell and Adriana Parra-Simon with assistance by Miss Miami USA 2010 Tatiana Santos, the evening had a great energy as we ventured into new pageant territory.

The Road to Hollywood opened up its new year in Southwest Florida for the first ever Miss Lee County USA & Teen Pageants. It was quite a day of pageantry as new director Sandi Spahn and her volunteer team presented a great show with some strong competition. The Ft. Myers Holiday Inn Grand Ballroom hosted six Miss Lee County Teen USA and three Miss Lee County USA delegates. The event was standing room only and excitement was in the air as the pageant formerly known as Ft. Myers took place in Lee County.

What a great pageant and wonderful start to the new season. Congratulations go to Mrs. Spahn and her team of volunteers and staff as they put together a very professional and well run event! Also congratulations to Miss Lum and Ms. King on representing their region at state. The Road to Hollywood returns to action next Sunday January 31^st in Plantation for the eight annual Miss West Broward USA & Teen Pageants.

This week’s stop on The Road to Hollywood celebrates the seventh anniversary of the Miss West Broward USA Pageant. Held at The Marriott Hotel and Resort on Heron Bay the five Miss USA and six Miss Teen USA contestants took the stage to an enthusiastic and sold out audience. Hosted by Miss Florida USA 2009 Anastagia Pierre with assistance by Miss West Broward USA 2010 Cynthia Deferrari and Miss West Broward Teen USA 2010 Shanice Wilson the standing room only crowd celebrated the return of the pageant to Coral Springs.

After a full evenings worth of entertainment it was time for the superlatives for the evening; Miss Photogenic went to Chrissy Reynoso (TUSA) and Princess Beauregard (USA) while Miss Congeniality went to Catarina Combs (TUSA) and Erica Bachelor. These awards qualify the winners to the state competitions latter this year.

Megan Clementi won her title last year in Coral Gables and won her state pageant as did Annilie Hastey in 2007 when she won Florida Teen USA as Miss Sunset Place Teen USA. Will the next titleholder take her first steps to the title this weekend as we put some pageantry into Super Bowl Weekend here in South Florida.

After much work, time, and negotiations we are proud to announce that Pageant Directors Kevin and Cami Sanders have selected their new venue. The "Ritz Theatre and Museum" in the historic LaVilla District of downtown Jacksonville will serve as the home to our oldest preliminary pageant. Beautiful stage, full lighting and nice dressing rooms await this year’s delegates. Mark the date of April 11th, 2010.

We sat down with the woman behind the line to discuss her Gen Art runway debut
Let’s talk inspiration.
This collection is for all the women who I know in my life, and for the woman I want to be. It’s very travel friendly. My clientele is pretty wide—from daughters to mothers—with a modern working womens’ lifestyle.

I’m desperate for a holiday—I haven’t been on one on a long time—and it shows in this collection. I thought, what would I want to have if I were to go from New York to Formentera to take a holiday? So it’s a very preppy, holiday girl this season. But it’s all about how you accessorize and how you layer.

What luggage would this woman carry on holiday?
Something pretty, beautiful...maybe Vintage Louis Vuitton

Which Spring 2010 collections are you looking forward to seeing?
I’ve been in my old world. I’m launching a second line with my best friend Richard Ruiz. We have a tiny collection for younger girls; it’s cheaper than our own independent lines. It’s a little more hipster, a little more fun.

Are there certain places in the city you go to get inspiration?
I live in Nolita so I just walk out my door.

Three things you can’t live without?
Dyptic scented candles, nice white sheets, good moisturizer.
