Challenged Cheerleaders in Need!

The Southwest Florida All Star Special Olympic Cheer Team is looking for sponsors to help with the cost of their uniforms.  The team was started this year and has a total of fourteen members.  The gym does not charge them fees for the gym and all the coaches volunteer their time.  Special Olympics provides funds for the cost of the competitions, including travel expenses, hotels, and competition fees.  However, the uniforms for the team are going to be $1500.00.  A sponsor has already been secured for $500.00 of that money, but we are seeking sponsors to help cover the rest.  Most times the costs of having a child with a special need is quite expensive for a family.  Extra medical bills and the need for at least one parent to be with the child at all times can cut down on a family's income.  If you can help out in any way, no matter how small, please make checks payable to Southwest Florida Allstars, and mail to:

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA CHEER GYM
6410-B   ARC WAY
FORT MYERS, FL  33912
PHONE (239) 936-7079

Make sure and write "Special Olympics Uniform donation" on your check!  And thanks for anything you can do!

THE ROAD TO MISS USA UPDATE:

Eighth time is charm for Miss Washington USA

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER STAFF

In a story of perseverance and determination the new Miss Washington USA has certainly worked hard for her title. After eight years of competing in local and state beauty pageants, Amy Crawford, 25, will finally head to a national competition.

Crawford, a five-time runner-up in two different pageants, was finally crowned Miss Washington USA 2005 Sunday at the Highline Performing Arts Center in Burien. The long-sought triumph sends her to the Miss USA competition next year in Baltimore. If she wins, she advances to the Miss Universe Pageant.

A singer and account representative for a local medical skin-care company, Crawford competed for seven years in the talent-based Miss Washington-Miss America pageant, making runner-up three straight years. "It was pure emotion, a culmination of eight years of pageant competition," Crawford said of her victory Sunday.

Crawford said she has earned a total of $30,000 in scholarship money through the Miss America program, which "paid for my college education." She is a 2001 graduate of the University of Washington, with a bachelor's in arts, media and culture. Ultimately, she said, she would like to be a pageant consultant and/or open a gown shop. We here in Florida admire your determination!
