Miss Space Coast USA & Miss Space Coast Teen USA / May 1, 2005

The Road To Hollywood ventured for the first time ever to Brevard County for the inaugural Miss Space Coast USA & Miss Space Coast Teen USA Pageants this past Sunday Afternoon. Historic Downtown Melbourne was the city and The Henegar Center Theater (Built in 1919) served as the venue for the pageant. Hosted by Miss Florida USA 2005 and Cocoa Beach’s very own Melissa Witek as eleven delegates competed for the two titles and the entries to state.

The pageant started early Sunday morning (May 1^st) with registration and rehearsal. After a contestant lunch it was time for the interview competition in the Performing Arts Center. The interviews began with self- introductions along with a few words about their career or educational aspirations. Then it was a panel session with all seven judges asking questions in a panel style interview.

The judges responsible for the selection of Miss Space Coast Teen USA were Penny Sheridan, Miss Florida USA 1979 and owner of Island Boat Lines; Ansolmo Baldonado, publisher of El Playero, Brevard’s only Spanish Language newspaper; Kathleen Lipton Schillo, President/CEO of the Cocoa Beach Area Chamber of Commerce; Stacey Hurt, Agency Director/Owner of Lala Models, Inc of Melbourne; Colleen Hess Tokarz, personal trainer, aerobics instructor and owner of The Fitness Shack; Michael Paul, Publisher and Founder of the Space Coast Chronicle Brevard’s leading Business publication and Lorin Cox, General Manager of Imperial Salon and Spa in Suntree.

The five Miss USA and six Miss Teen USA delegates opened the show with self-introductions complete with the delegates in bright, colorful tops and white pants. This was the first chance the audience had to meet the young ladies. Then the pageantry competition began as it was time for the swimwear competition, the delegates competed in one-piece suits of their own choosing. Then it was everyone favorite, the evening gown competition showed the delegates flair for

fashion. All competitions ended with group comparison judging.

During competition breaks Rhythm in Motion Dance Troupe of Melbourne performed contemporary dance numbers. As soon as the votes were tabulated by official auditor Dr. Steve Brown they were handed to Ms. Witek to read the judges results. Up first were the special awards for the day both of which qualify the winners for state:

the results for the title of Miss Space Coast Teen USA:

Big thanks go to the delegates and attendees of the first ever Space Coast USA Pageant! It was truly a great afternoon of pageantry. Congratulations to Ms. Pelham and Miss LaReau on their victories and entry to state later this year. Congratulations goes to my hard working staff for producing two pageants in three weeks, thank you Rachel, Mary Lou and Esteban for such hard work! Up next is a trip south on I-95 for The Miss Boca Raton USA Pageant next week on The Road To Hollywood!

Every week more delegates become eligible to compete at state.

The season started with qualifiers from the past year. All of each pageants top15 qualify

along with Miss Amity & Miss Photogenic. Each preliminary pageant qualifies delegates

as “at large” status with their finalist, amity, photogenic and peoples choice awards.
