Welcome to another edition of YOUR Miss Florida USA & Miss Florida Teen USA Magazine YOUR information source for everything pageantry in the Sunshine State. What a weekend it was as fifteen titles were handed out over a six-hour period on Saturday. I was enjoying the pageantry in Orlando as The Win The Crown Team of Julie and Frank put together a great show. The excitement also was great in Bradenton and Pembroke Pines as YOUR Ezine has all of the results. The fun doesn’t stop as next weekend it’s back to Orlando for Miss Orange County USA and Teen USA!

World Pageant News heads to The Ukraine and the Philippines for their Miss Universe qualifiers. Miss Florida USA News has results from the past weekend. Faces & Places follows our Miss Florida USA Cristin Duren as she was in Hollywood recently preparing for Miss USA. Gen Art this week has the latest. » MISS UKRAINE UNIVERSE ANNOUNCED:

A 19-year-old student from Kharkiv Agricultural University, Olga Shylovanova, was chosen Miss Ukraine 2006 at Ukraine Palace on February 28. The contest jury, including Olympic champion Lilia Popkopayeva, Facty Editor-In-Chief Oleksandr Shvets, TV presenter Oleksandr Kolody, opera star Volodymyr Gryshko and chairwoman of the “Miss Ukraine” committee Liliya Kuznetsova, selected Shylovanova out of 26 girls from 23 cities across the country.

The happy winner, who will now represent Ukraine at the Miss Universe 2006 pageant, received a number of presents from the sponsors – but her main prize certainly was the golden crown adorned with jewels, which is estimated to cost around Hr 180,000 ($36,000).

The show was attended by French actor Gerard Depardieu and eccentric Russian performer Boris Moiseyev who played a few of his hits and expressed his admiration for Ukrainian women. In the meantime the pretty brunette will have to work even harder to equally impress the jury at Miss Universe 2006. Let’s wish our home-grown beauty some luck.

» MISS NORWAY USA 2006

For the first time in its history, the Miss Norway Beauty Pageant has been held outside the country. Since its inception in 1919 it has always been held in Scandinavia but this time thanks to Catwalk Promotions, Air Malta and the Malta tourism Authority it was held in Malta.

Sixteen finalists made it to the Grand Finale at the Fortina Hotel in Sliema. This years Miss Norway Crown was won by Linn Anderson. Aina Tuerra was the runner-up. Apart from Miss Norway, ten other finalists were chosen to represent their country at home and internationally at various events around the world.

» PHILIPINE TITLEHOLDERS SELECTED

Three major titles were awarded at the 2006 Binibining Pilipinas pageant held last Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. The spectators erupted in screams as Denille Lou Valmonte, 24, received the Binibining Pilipinas-International title from 2005 Miss International Precious Lara Quigaman.

rejoice after Saturday night’s coronation at the Araneta Center in Quezon City.

Ana Maris Igpit, another crowd pleaser, was crowned Binibining Pilipinas-World by previous titleholder Carlene Aguilar. She was also proclaimed Best in Long Gown. The Binibining Pilipinas-Universe title, on the other hand, went to Lia Andrea Ramos. The 25-year-old political science graduate of the University of the Philippines also bagged numerous awards -- Miss Photogenic, Best in Swimsuit, Miss Philippine Airlines and Mane and Tail's Best Hair.

First runner-up Rosalyn Santiago, 25, earlier entered the semis when she was proclaimed Smart Texter's Choice for garnering the most number of votes cast through text. Jeanne Bernadette Bello, 22, completed the lineup as second runner-up. Twenty-four hopefuls competed in this year's competition.

Criminal charges have been stayed against a former Toronto beauty pageant winner for her alleged role in a massage parlor robbery. Crown prosecutor Marcus Felix yesterday told Justice Kathryn Hawke he was staying all charges against Zenovique Wilson, 20, and Shawnese Chisholm, 19, of Mississauga for their alleged roles in the robbery at a massage parlour in Mississauga and the planning of another heist in Brampton.

The two women and three men were scheduled to begin a preliminary hearing yesterday in a Brampton courtroom. Wilson was out on bail when she won the Miss Toronto Tourism title last April 22, six months to the day after she and four others were arrested in connection with their alleged roles in the robbery.

Pageant organizers couldn't be reached by phone, but a spokesperson told the Toronto Star in an email that Wilson's title was removed when they learned of her criminal charges and runner-up Lori-Ann Price took her crown.

A publication ban prevents reporting why Felix stayed the charges or the evidence against any of the accused. Also yesterday, Raniel St. Louis, 20, of Toronto elected to waive his right to a preliminary hearing and proceed directly to a trial. Jamie Barriteau, 20, and Quincy Blackburn, 19, both of Toronto, decided to continue with their preliminary hearing.

According to public information obtained by the Star, the accused were alleged to have worn masks and used imitation firearms to steal purses, money and cell phones from women at the Soft Hands Spa in Mississauga on Oct. 22, 2004. Four days later, Peel police arrested Wilson and four others at a Brampton strip mall at Orenda and Rutherford Rds. Police alleged at the time of their arrests that the group was also planning on robbing the Mystique Massage Parlour.

The three men face a variety of criminal charges, including using an imitation firearm to commit a robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and wearing a disguise in the commission of an indictable offence.

March 4, 2006The first pageant of the March 4^th pageant tripleheader saw a highly competitive three-title pageant at The Timber Creek Performing Arts Center Saturday afternoon. A large and vocal crowd came to cheer on the ten Miss USA and ten Miss Teen USA delegates competing for the crown. Hostess and Co-Pageant Director Julie Broughton of Central Florida News 13 who greeted the audience as it was time to get the pageant started!

Before the final announcements were read, both Miss Orlando USA 2006 Chelsea Zedar and Miss Polk County USA Lindsay Norris both had the chance to take the last walk of their titles. Both speeches were poignant and were received by standing ovations.

Before the final placements were announced it was time for those special awards that also qualify the winners for state. First was Miss Photogenic and the winners were Brooke Milner (TUSA) & Lynsey Coburn (USA). Miss Amity went to Stephanie Sickles (TUSA) and Deanna Pollina (USA). Finally it was the Peoples Choice Award and that awarded to Heather Elwell (TUSA) & Lynsey Coburn (USA) who took home her second award of the day.

Then the final results were announced with The Miss Teen USA Results being read first:

What a great afternoon of pageantry! Congratulations to Win The Crown directors Frank and Julie along with their outstanding group of volunteers ran an outstanding pageant. Job well done! Now the Road To Hollywood heads to Pembroke Pines and finally Bradenton to announce eleven more titleholders this weekend!

The Road to Miss Florida USA took a quick trip down I-95 to the Broward County city of Pembroke Pines for the second annual Miss Pembroke Pines USA Pageants on Saturday afternoon. Produced by Halavin Productions at The Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish Hall five Miss USA and eight Miss Teen USA delegates competed for the three tiaras. The third title of the day is the first ever Miss Broward County Teen USA.

Now all was left was to announce the special prizes and the results for the Miss Pembroke Pines Teen USA division. Once again these winners are qualified for state: Miss Amity is Sarah Callahan; Miss Photogenic is Lysa Gayle Weetom and the Peoples Choice went to Lindsay Shockey.

Up first were the final announcements in the Teen USA Division :

» Miss West Coast USA & Teen USA Super Pageant 2007

The Road to Hollywood made its third and final stop Saturday in Bradenton for the eight-titled Miss West Coast USA & Teen USA Super Pageant. The evening saw the thirty-five delegates competing for the third annual Miss Manatee County USA and Miss Sarasota USA titles were complimented by the second Miss West Coast USA title and first ever (and possibly changing) Miss St. Armand’s Circle USA title along with the matching teen winners!

First up was the presentation of the special awards of the evening that qualifies the winners for their respective state pageants. Miss Photogenic went to Jillian Wunderlich (Teen USA) and Genevieve Jahn (USA) while The Peoples Choice winners were Katy Kreig (Teen USA) and Dahlia Grimes (USA).

Then the group was whittled down to the finalists in the two categories with the Teen USA finalists read first; Tess Wilensky; Katie Kreig; Karrisa Brogan; Jillian Wunderlich; Nicole Boyd; Tifton Wilson; Keianna Bennett and Lainna Vinopal. The USA finalists were then announced; Johanna Torres; Crystal Mulock; Jamie Daniels; Genevieve Jahn; Carolina Correa; Brittany Thomas; Cassie Burbanks and Lilly Ann Robbins. These above young ladies have now qualified for the state competition.

Without further delay it was time to announce the results for the Teen USA division:

Three pageants in less then twelve hours and sixteen title’s in what was truly a “Pageant Super Saturday”! Next on The Road to Hollywood is a trip back on I-4 for Miss Orange County USA & Teen USA this Sunday. Looking forward to seeing more of our Miss Florida USA family this Sunday in Orlando!

Stop Being So Nice : Get Nasty With Strenesse

You just might go to a gallery opening next fall, look across the room and see a woman dressed like a sensual sophisticate. Don't bother to ask her what she's wearing. She'll be dressed in Strenesse.

We spent most our time at New York fashion week counting down the minutes until the open bar. Almost every designer had the same idea for Fall 2006 - ultra-femininity. Yawn. And then, a show of tight turtlenecks, slim pants, and cumberbunds knocked the sleep from our weary eyes. It was Gabriel Strehle's line Strenesse, which was full of layered neutrals and splashes of vibrant colors (orange, reds) creating subtly smoking hot looks. For example, a silk tan turtleneck paired with a blazing red, body-hugging knee length skirt. Really ladies... Forget about pleated skirts, ruffles and ribbons. Strehle's tight-fitting herringbone coats and black Matrix-like suits (that were almost glued onto the models bodies) could be the right way to ring in the fall season.

If women are filled with sugar and spice, it's as if the 50-year old Strehle realizes that often, unapologetically, the spice deserves the spotlight.
