PAGEANT NEWS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

»  On bail, she won beauty contest - Charged in Mississauga spa robbery

`Miss Toronto Tourism' officials mum

BOB MITCHELL / STAFF REPORTER

A former Toronto beauty pageant winner — who captured her title while out on bail — is among five people who will appear in court March 6 in connection with a massage parlour robbery and the planning of another.

Zenovique Wilson, now 20, won the Miss Toronto Tourism title in April 2005, six months after she had been arrested for her alleged role in the crimes. A preliminary hearing is set for March 6 in a Brampton court.  Four people are alleged to have worn masks and used imitation firearms to steal purses from women at the Soft Hands Spa in Mississauga on Oct. 22, 2004, according to the sworn public information obtained yesterday by the Star. On April 22, 2005, Wilson won the Miss Toronto Tourism 2005 title at the York Theatre in Toronto. Pageant organizers couldn't be reached by phone and there was no reply when contacted by email.

Officials with the Toronto Board of Trade said neither their organization nor Toronto Tourism have anything to do with the pageant. Toronto Tourism officials have been trying to get pageant organizers to drop the "tourism" name, but they've been unsuccessful in reaching anybody connected with the contest.

The current website lists Lori-Anne Price, originally one of several runners-up, as the winner of the 2005 crown. However, Wilson is listed as the 2005 winner in the cached sections of the website.  When she was listed as the winner, pageant officials indicated Wilson chose S.W.I.M. (Single Women in Motherhood) as the charity she wanted to represent for the year of her reign. As winner, Wilson was described as a "good role model."

Peel police arrested Wilson and four others on Oct. 26, 2004 at about 4 a.m. at Orenda and Rutherford Rds. in Brampton after an ongoing investigation. At the time of their arrests, police alleged the group was planning to rob the Mystique Massage Parlour. Police said replica firearms were also seen in one of their vehicles.

The delegates onstage during cast introductions

The Road To Hollywood ventured to Northern Florida off of I-10 West to our States Capital for the third annual Miss Tallahassee USA Pageant.  Twelve delegates competed for the two titles Saturday evening at The R.A. Gray Theater. It was a standing room only crowd as Miss Florida Teen USA 2006 Jennifer Wooten and Elton Gumbel of Tallahassee’s WCTV-6 greeting the crowd in her new college town of Tallahassee. Then the seven Miss Tallahassee Teen USA delegates and five Miss Tallahassee USA delegates were introduced and the pageant evening was on!

First was the swimsuit competition as the delegates competed in one-piece suits for the Teen USA division and two-piece suits for the Miss USA division with the suits being of their own choosing. The delegates were then brought back on stage individually for a final interview session. Questions were by the contestants themselves and blindly drawn onstage. This was a great chance to see what the judges had seen earlier in their one-on-one interview sessions.

The Future Is Bright
You Should Put Some Shades

Yes it's cold, but it's often sunny in wintertime and spring is just around the bend. So let's talk sunglasses.
Ladies, the J-Lo sunglasses are out and Chanel is so yesterday. It's time to look elsewhere for inspiration. Give the big frames of Dita's Supadupa a glance. With their tortoise shell frames and hand-tinted lenses (dark green to clear), these frames are more Sophia Loren, then Jenny "from the block."

Men? Be men with the Convict Sunglasses from Anon. While they happen to be slightly pricey at $240, if you're a responsible sort of guy, it's worth the investment. These glasses scream masculinity with their subtle detailing, thick frames and ye! s, they're also only slightly tinted, which saves you from looking like the Terminator.

If you really want to be original, check out the vintage glasses over at Klasik. Both men and women can find styles from the 20s all the way up to the 80s. We especially like the aviator frames for men circa 1982 with thin with gently tinted lenses and that Tom Cruise, Top Gun flavor.

Sunglasses have always been a fashion statement. Make your frames a highlight of your outfit, instead of an afterthought.
