Dear Miss Florida USA Family:

Welcome to another edition of YOUR Miss Florida USA & Miss Florida Teen USA Magazine YOUR information source for everything pageantry in the Sunshine State. Less then two weeks before the beginning of the best Miss Florida USA Pageant ever! The Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa is also excited to host all of our delegates, families, directors and friends to the most luxurious pageant in the entire country! We have been all around the hotel the past month and have some great news, we now have a beach to enjoy. With a $5 million beach renovation project finished the place looks amazing so plan on having an amazing pageant week experience. One personal suggestion, check out the spa as the treatments are out of this world.

This week's E-zine leads off with pageant news and the latest on this years Miss America Pageant. Miss Florida USA News reports on the upcoming rain date shoots and a report on Miss Hollywood USA Pageant. Also we have news on our yearly visit to our friends at The Miss Florida America Pageant. On tomorrows Faces & Places we feature a profile of one of my personal favorite Miss USA’s Suzie Castillo and her career at MTV. All the pageant news that fits to print updated on Thursdays and Fridays only at YOUR Miss Florida USA E-zine, the only E-zine in the pageant world!

» Miss America faces reality in search for a TV date

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — In any other year, Miss Delaware Becky Bledsoe would be making her travel plans. The folks at Fischer Florists would know when they have to deliver all the corsages and bouquets. Boardwalk Hall would have a two-week period blocked out for pageant rehearsals, preliminary competitions and the crowning of the new Miss America. But this year, Miss America doesn't have a date. The beauty pageant is without a TV contract and has yet to establish a date for the crowning, which traditionally is held in early September. “It is, candidly, looking more and more like September's out of the picture,” said Bob Arnhym, executive director of the Miss California Scholarship Pageant.

Dropped by ABC last fall because of record-low viewership, the Miss America pageant has been searching for a new television outlet to carry the 84-year-old pageant. Art McMaster, CEO of the Miss America Organization, has declined repeated requests for an interview about the pageant's hunt for a new TV outlet. Spokeswoman Jenni Glenn said the pageant was in “final negotiations with interested networks” and would have an announcement within two weeks. Keeping the pageant on the air is a necessity — both for visibility's sake and because the Miss America Organization has historically depended on TV revenue to run the show and pay for the scholarships awarded to contestants. Pageant officials said they were considering a shift away from the formula of the telecast in favor of something more in line with reality TV shows. Instead of a once-a-year special that struggles to interest viewers, McMaster has pitched the idea of Miss America as a show aired over several nights, with viewers getting to know the contestants as they do on “American Idol” and other reality shows.

Whatever it is, Miss America's next TV outlet will likely scratch the speeches about world peace in favor of televised backbiting among the contestants. I don't think there's an audience for squeaky clean,” said Shari Anne Brill, director of programming for ad buying firm Carat. “It has to be modernized in the way we've all been fed such reality. You need to see the tears, the drama, the makeup, the mascara, the crisis of finding out you have a zit.”

MISS FLORIDA USA NEWS!

» JUNE RAIN DATES FRIDAY & SATURDAY!

Friday will be the afternoon at Hollywood Beach and Saturday morning in downtown Hollywood. If you’re in the neighborhood drop bye and say hello or check out the pictures posted throughout the weekend. Only at YOUR favorite state pageant site on the Internet!

» MISS FLORIDA USA AT MISS FLORIDA AMERICA PAGEANT:

It was so much fun last year to have a pre-pageant get together with The Miss Florida USA family attending this years Miss Florida America Pageant in Miami. This year’s game plan is to meet at the host hotel, The Hilton Miami Airport (5101 Blue Lagoon Drive, Miami, Florida, United States 33126 Tel: +1-305-262-1000) at 4:30pm for fellowship and an early dinner, as I hate going to any performance on an empty stomach! The hall is about twenty minutes from the hotel and the event starts at 7:30pm. To RSVP either email us at telair@aol.com or call Co-Pageant Director Rachel Uziel at (954) 924-4949.

» THE WESTIN DIPLOMAT RESORT & SPA RESERVATIONS

Only a few rooms remain at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa for our family, friends and directors who want to take advantage of the special $159.00 Miss Florida USA rate. My suggestion is to book your reservations as soon as possible. Space is limited and they are anticipating a full hotel during pageant week. For information call the hotels reservations line at (888) 627-9057 or Make an Online Reservation or visit online at http://www.diplomatresort.com/Public/index.asp
