Less then three weeks until The 56^th Annual Miss Florida USA Pageant and we are so excited about the fantastic week in store. This week is the last for at-large delegates to join the event so we will have a final count in next weeks Ezine!

» Jennifer’s Movie Offer

FRESH from her reign over the universe, former cheerleader Jennifer Hawkins is now set to conquer the world of movies. Only days after handing over her title of Miss Universe, the Newcastle, NSW, beauty has received her first film offer - from Hollywood heavyweight Adam Sandler to join a stellar cast in his movie Click. Hawkins has no previous acting experience but her first co-stars would include acclaimed actor Christopher Walken and star of The Aviator, Kate Beckinsale.

After watching Hawkins during last week's Miss Universe pageant, Sandler - who stars in The Longest Yard - rang Hawkins' Sydney manager with the offer at 6am on Friday. The news has stunned Hawkins, 21, who is on holidays with friends in Bali. "I love Adam Sandler, I think he's hilarious," Hawkins told The Sunday Telegraph yesterday. "The fact that he wants me in his new movie is totally unbelievable. I don't know whether I'm able to free up July and August to shoot it, but if it works out then it would be fantastic."

Hawkins recently signed with Channel Seven to become a regular presenter on its travel show, The Great Outdoors. If the network agrees to reschedule her commitments to the show, Hawkins will relocate to Los Angeles in July for two months. Hawkins' manager Sean Anderson said he initially thought the call from funnyman Sandler was a prank. "He said he'd watched her on TV during the pageant and thought she looked awesome and loved the way she communicated," Anderson said. "He then went on to say he would love to have her in his next film."

Sandler's cult following could pay huge dividends for the girl Donald Trump once referred to as "the most beautiful Miss Universe ever".

» Miss Italy Contestants Red Eyed!

Rash-reddened cheeks, puffy eyes and tears of despair -- not quite the look contestants at the Miss Italy semi-finals might have hoped for on their big night, but exactly what many of them got.

Decorative metallic patterns stuck onto the girls` skin combined with heat and sweat may have triggered the nasty skin reaction in 40 of the 100 contestants at the weekend event, Italian media reported Monday.

"It will last 72 hours at the most. Of course it depends on the individual reaction of each person but with treatment it should be gone fairly soon," Rome-based daily Il Messaggero quoted dermatologist Benedetto Marinangeli as saying.

But while the cheeks might soon recover, damaged pride may take longer to heal and Il Messaggero said some of the contestants were considering legal action.

Organizers of the event were quick to say that the make-up misfortune had no effect on the end results as finalists had already been chosen before the rashes flared.

» JUNE PRETAPE WEEKEND: Rain Rain Go Away!

This past week’s pretape shoots looked fantastic with a big hand going to the delegates for their abilities to withstand the elements and still look great. Wednesday started the proposed four day shoot with a surprisingly sunny afternoon. The Westin Diplomat County Club was the first location as we had some fun with golf carts, putters and tennis racquets as the ladies had a chance to show off their inner athlete. Then a final destination of sailing was quite the hit as Brooke Francis and Bertha Velasquez proved themselves sea worthy with their abilities.

Thursday started the theme of wet sunshine as we quickly moved the proposed our poolside shoot at The Westin Country Club to the gigantic overhanging covers of The Diplomat Landings.

It was fashion on display as we presented some of the Miss Florida USA Prize Collection on Thursday. Jewelry by G ---- and Twinestone Jewelry were up first with our supermodels. Then it was the Rozio Coutoure Collection as worn by our delegates. So much fun, so little sun was the mantra of the day. But great pictures were had and we are happy to share some more of them!

Friday once again saw some scrambling as an indoor afternoon was suppose to be followed by a Beach side afternoon. Arlene didn’t agree as everything was moved indoors at The Westin Diplomat Resort. Nineteen delegates joined us under storm like conditions as more of The Miss Florida USA Prize Collection was displayed. After a “faux” interview session it was time for the FICA prize modeled amongst the walkways of The Westin Diplomat. Carroll’s Jewelers traditional customized necklace was then presented to our Miss Florida USA 2005 Melissa Witek. After a trip on the Holly Trolley down Hollywood Beach for Lunch at Ocean Alley, the day ended with more delegate introductions in the convention center and then a rainy drive home!

» JUNE RAIN DATES NEXT WEEK!

The final pretape session of the Miss Florida USA season scheduled for Saturday June 11 was pretty much washed out by Tropical Storm Arlene. So next Friday and Saturday, June 24 & 25 will see the completion of the Miss Florida USA Prize Collection and the shows delegate introductions. Friday will be on Hollywood Beach and Saturday in downtown Hollywood. If you’re in the neighborhood drop bye and say hello or check out the pictures posted throughout the weekend.
