» MISS ORMOND BEACH USA/TEEN USA & MISS VOLUSIA COUNTY TEEN USA
POSTPONED TO APRIL:

Due to conflicts with NASCAR’S Daytona 500 auto race the organizers of Miss Ormond Beach USA are not going to be able to hold the Miss Ormond Beach USA, Miss Ormond Beach Teen USA, Miss Volusia County Teen USA pageant next weekend. With the weekend being the two biggest races of the season it was just impossible to co-ordinate the pageant, plus at best traffic would have been challenging!

The directors are going to postpone the pageant until April. As soon as they find a venue, we will announce the new date right here at YOUR Miss Florida USA Ezine. The directors say it will be a one day pageant and they plan on crowning two teens and one miss. Applications are still being accepted, for more information check out www.missdaytonausa.com

» Miss Sunset Place USA & Miss Sunset Place Teen USA 2007

The first pageant partnership with Simon Mall’s The Shops at Sunset Place presented a highly competitive Miss Sunset Place USA Pageant with twenty-two delegates competing for the two titles. The Sunset Place Performance Stage had a mall-estimated crowd of 750 pageant fans in the standing room only crowd. The came to cheer on the fourteen Miss USA and eight Miss Teen USA delegates in this beautiful evening of pageantry under the stars!

The show started with Miss Florida USA 2004 Kristen Berset greeting the crowd and they jumped out of their seats and when the delegates introduced themselves in white for the Teen USA delegates and red for the Miss USA delegates in honor of Valentines Day! As they presented their names and hometowns the volunteers from Sigma Chi helped them down the two-tiered performance area.

Up first was the swimsuit competition as the delegates competed in solid colored one-piece suits of their own choosing. The competition ended with comparison judging as a group. Afterwards we meet Miss West Broward Teen USA Sarah Callahan; Miss Citrus Teen USA Brittany Smith; Miss Oakland Park Teen USA Christen Erickson; Miss Broward County USA Jennifer Olkininsky; Miss Hollywood USA Rachel Rose and Miss Hollywood Teen USA Krizia Toledo. Then it was time for everyone’s favorite The Evening Gown Competition was up next. Fashion was on display as the delegate competed in gowns of their own choosing.

After the semi final competition was over it was time to meet the judging panel; Florida House of Representative for District 117 Julio Robaina; Miss Florida USA 1991 Rosa Vivella De La O; Director of Development for The Simon Groups Cody Huffman; Miss Florida Teen USA 1989 Debra Knox; Fashion Show Producer and Entrepreneur Cynthia Lamaa; and Sunset Place General Manager Ken Hinkle.

Then it was time to narrow the field down to the state-qualifying finalist in each division. Up first was the Miss Teen USA division and those finalists were Alysa Spirato; Kelly Brumer; Marsha Nangkal and Annilie Hastey. Then it was time to announce the finalists in the USA division. Beginning with Ashley Washington; Monika Arenas; Angel Coleman; Yazmin Navarro and Lindsey Shockey. These young women have all now qualified for state as South Florida At-Large Delegates.

Then it was one last round of interviews on stage in both divisions. The Sunset Place Teen USA Delegates were asked, “What is the most important aspect of high school to you?” and the Sunset Place USA delegates were asked “What qualified them for the position of Miss Sunset Place USA?” The delegates handled these questions like pros and had the audience cheering their favorites!

Then it was time to bring back onstage the entire cast for The Special Awards as that also qualifies the winners for state. First was Miss Amity and that went to Alysa Spirato and Justine Llanes. Miss Photogenic was a best in pageant award and that went to Annilie Hasty.

Then the final results were announced with Miss Sunset Place Teen USA being read first:

Then it was time to announce the new Miss Sunset Place USA:

4^th Runner Up is Monika Arenas.

3^rd Runner Up is Angel Coleman.

2^nd Runner Up is Lindsey Shockey.

What an amazing evening of pageantry as Miss Florida USA has truly made an impression on South Miami! Special Thanks to Simon Properties; The Martini Bar; Game Works; The Make Up Store (thanks for that wonderful dressing room and fabulous make up stations!) and Kreps/De Maria Public Relations for really going all out to make this the tradition that it will become. Job well done! Now the Road To Hollywood ventures North on I-95 to Miss Jacksonville USA and Miss Ormond Beach Pageants next weekend. See you in North Florida next week!

Also a big Miss Florida USA family welcome goes to Von Gretchen McAlprin who will direct this great addition to The South Florida USA Circuit. Ms. McAlprin is no stranger to pageantry as she formerly directed The Miss Los Angeles USA Pageant in the Miss California USA System and legendary director Carolee Munger. Around Florida USA and Director Don Steere presents the sixth annual Miss Jacksonville USA and Miss Jacksonville Teen USA Pageants this Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm at North Florida Universities Performing Art Center Complex in Suite 120. The Jacksonville stop on The Road to Hollywood is one of the Original Six as The First Coast sends its representative to Miss Florida USA.
