What an evening it was in Volusia County as The Road to Hollywood’s second trip of the year visited the inaugural Miss Ormond Beach USA & Miss Ormond Beach Teen USA Pageants Sunday Evening. The Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center hosted the Eight delegates competed in the official Ormond Beach qualifier for Miss Teen USA and seven delegates competed in the Miss Teen USA qualifier. The theater was packed with the attendees abuzz as the lights went out and the competition began.

In white tops and blue jeans the delegates paraded onstage in the high energy opening number to the popular song “Rescue Me”. After the group finale the announcer introduced the evenings hosting team of Miss Daytona Beach USA 2007 Ashley Pannagio; Miss Daytona Beach 2006 Meg Perkins; Miss Daytona Beach Teen USA Riley Seegert; Miss Gold Coast USA Kendra Waller; Miss Polk County Teen USA Erin Winters and Miss Volusia County USA Amanda Zitzman along with Barry Kramer.

After getting to know the evenings hosting team a little bit the competition was about to begin. Up first were the Miss Ormond Beach Teen USA contestants introducing themselves to the judges and audience in one-minute speeches offering insight into the delegate’s life and indicating their speaking skills. Once the two groups finished it was the onstage interview competition. Sitting at a center stage table with either Ms. Pannagio or Ms. Zitzman they answered questions from their biography cards.

Then phase two of the competition was in swimwear individually as the delegates competed in one or two-piece swimsuits of there own choosing. After the final contestant completed the individual competition it was on stage one last time for comparison judging. Following the teen delegates it was the Miss Ormond Beach USA delegates in their swimwear.

Then the final phase of competition featured the delegates in evening gowns of their own choosing. The Teen USA delegates were up first followed by The Miss USA contestants. Then it was time for the judges to narrow down the group to the five Miss Teen USA and three Miss USA finalists. The Miss Ormond Beach Teen USA state qualifiers were Kayla Conatser; Stephanie Chambers; Amanda Guiles; Heather Elwell and Lauren Weidner. Then the finalists for Miss Ormond Beach USA were Alexandra Palmer; Amanda Willis and Sandra Saviir.

The finalists were then asked questions drawn at random and presented by Ms. Pannagio, Miss Seegert and Ms. Zitzman. This allowed one final review for the judges who had to make a very difficult decision. Before their selections were announced it was time for the special award winners for the evening. The Miss Ormond Beach Teen USA Results for these special awards were;

Miss Amity – Kayla Conatser

Miss Photogenic – Amanda Guiles

Peoples Choice – Kolbi Browning

Then the Miss Ormond Beach USA special awards were as follows:

Miss Amity – Farala Alvarez

Miss Photogenic – Sandra Saviir

Peoples Choice – Katie Nichols

All of the above winners qualify for the state pageant later this year in Hollywood.

Then it was time for the announcements.

The Espadrille Is So Played Out

Time To Get your Summer Kicks

Everyone is yapping about how the wedgy-espadrille is this year's must have shoe for summer, blah, blah, blah... We beg to differ. We would have applauded your fashion forward eye, if you had been rocking them last summer, but now, this once great warm weather shoe has been spotted on the feet of bumbling Britney and soccer mom's, too. Whoa. Game over.

You dig the wedge on the espadrille, since it provides you a little lift, but also enough stability to keep you upright when you've had one too many. Fair enough. Walk like the Queen Bee in Loeffler Randall's Harper Peep - a to-die-for royal purple wedge of soft leather with intricate, lovely detailing at the toe.

Or, get flat with Chilean born designer Maria Cornejo's kicks called, Jacquard. They're as comfortable as sneakers, but are sans laces, and cut slim in a Brazilian print. They might inspire you to tell your boss you're quitting and moving to the beach to make hemp necklaces. Hey, it could happen.

And if you must, must, must get on the espadrille boat, then forgo the mall and snag a pair online from Stephane Bucco's shoe line, String Republic. For only 30 Euros, you'll be racking up serious street cred in prints by one of 12 of the coolest international graphic artists like Sockho and Finland's Kustaa Saksi. Bonus points: these shoes keep it real by being produced in the factory where espadrilles were originally produced.

We're just not into showing up at the rooftop party in identical gear as the rest of the chicks sipping on mojitos and batting their lashes. We suggest you don't either.
